"Love Alters Not is a two act showcase created by a production team of 18-22 year olds, making this a youth led show, which was very importance to us from the beginning.! We wanted this showcase to be a space for young creatives, aspiring to be in the industry, to develop something that is there own, and to have a chance to collaborate, and to create a unique piece. It is a devised piece centred around exploring themes of love through time.

To create this production, we chose 6 extracts from 6 different plays, that explored different themes/types of romance right from tragedies to new and exciting love, from classic to modern time periods. Act 1 was made up of extracts from, Romeo and Juliet, Pride and Prejudice and Angles in America. Then with Act 2 being made up of The Great Gatsby, The Importance of Being Earnest and an original piece written by one of our cast members, inspired by the story of Orpheus and Eurydice. This was also a unique point to our showcase, as most of the works we chose were in the public domain, this gave us the opportunity to write most of the extracts ourselves straight from the source, making this production even more our own.

This show was at it's core a play, however, from the beginning this was going to be a space where all creative talents could shine! To add further emotional impact and richness we brought on an amazing young choreographer to put together 2 dance numbers that helped bring the piece to life. Following from our opening scene, Romeo and Juliet, we went into a beautiful modern take on a ballroom dance number, featuring modern instrumental music. The 2nd number opened act 2, this was a fun, jazzy Charleston number, that flowed into our Great Gatsby piece. We had a principle dancer that was separate from the actors who lead each number, neutralising the actors creating a full ensemble.

What we all got from this show was the chance to work and collaborate with each other, and to utilise everyone's talents right from the crew to the performers. It was an incredible and rewarding process getting to work with such talented individuals, and being able to showcase what young people have to give to this industry."
